Hi John,
Yep, ya'gotta get up early this Saturday.
Two reasons:
1) To get in there before the yard sale customers get the chance to tell
the sellers that there's a fortune there, etc, etc, etc. Also to keep the
yard sale buyers out of the radio area.
2) It's going to take longer than we think, it always does. Things need
to be removed, packed and boxed. Then carted to the cars/vans.
3) As my old man used to holler at me, what'a you going to do, sleep half
the day away. ... whoops, I said two things didn't I? :-)
I saw a question earlier about cost. We're, NJARC, buying it for
$400. The club will auction, and otherwise, the stuff away. (This was
Marv's idea.) He sent me over, because it was mostly ham related, with
specific dollar amounts to offer.
There is more to the story. The owner was a showman for RCA, showing the
new RCA invention, Color TV. There is a lot of TV documentation and
historical documents there. This alone is worth the price, as it needs to
be preserved, and for research, articles and papers.
In the trash, already thrown out at street side, I found documents where
this guy presented Color TV to the Japanese in Tokyo for the first time
ever. There are thousands of color slides that document his trips abroad,
most I think are company trips, showing his presentations and also some of
the local scenery.
I have the original schematics for his big homebrew transmitter (the black
cabinets). Whoever gets it should be able to restore it to original, or
close to it. I think there have been a few modifications to the units.
I found, again in the trash, documents showing his brother crated the units
for shipment from his home to Hawaii in 1939. Most of the crates are still
there, rescued from the trash pile and brought back into the garage.
I think the possibilities are very good, that he was there on December 7,
as I have documents he typed after that date. I think he was in or
attached to the Navy. Wouldn't it be a gas, if he were attached to the
Radar group there?

Hi Phil,
Count me in! Please just make sure all volunteers get to see it before we
start dismantling.
I have a mid-size SUV (Mountaineer). Not as spacious as my old Caravan, but
a helluva lot more reliable.
Of course, this will take time away from "final improvements" on my homebrew
project! ;-).
Seeya Later,
JR

********NJARC October 26 Project ********
An intact ham station dating back to the 1930s,
untouched for the last 15 years or so....
We need club volunteers to help dismantle and
remove this historic find next Saturday 10/26.
We will need 3 or 4 vans or SUVs to complete the job.
Station is located in Mt Laurel, NJ. Maps coming soon.
Please take part in this club activity. We can't do it
without you!
