[NJARC] Request for opinions

Marty,

Thanks for the information. I don't see anything on the front that looks
like a decal other than the "Philco High Fidelity" label under the small
window frame for the frequency indicator. Other than that, the front and
sides appear to be decorated with lines of light wood inlays or veneers,
bordered with black inlays. These appear to be unblemished. Also, only one
knob, the middle one in the horizontal line of three, is missing. All of
the others are in place and intact.

As for the chassis, I appreciate the encouragement. I will probably remove
the chassis and bring it to a meeting for some closer inspection and advice
on restoration.

Bob

Hi Bob.
Looking at the picture if a 201 console in Ramirez's book, it appears that
the upper section of the front is a photofinish (decal) if this burled area
is damaged, it will be hard to repair. If the cabinet is salvageable, It is
fairly easy to get replacement speaker cloth dials, and knobs. Being that
you have a complete chassis, It would not be advisable to put a modern set
in there. This radio should perform very well when restored. 1935 is just
about the peak of quality in classic radio design. It won't get FM, but
should get your AM ( WNYC) station as well as any modern set can, and with
better tone as well. There is lots of help available at The NJ antique radio
club. e-mail me directly at [email protected] if you have specific concerns.
Regards, Marty
