...POWERFUL STORM MOVING INTO THE SIERRA AND WESTERN NEVADA...

...HIGH AVALANCHE DANGER FOR THE SIERRA TONIGHT AND SUNDAY...

.A POWERFUL PACIFIC SYSTEM WILL BRING ABUNDANT MOISTURE AND
INSTABILITY TO THE SIERRA AND WESTERN NEVADA THIS AFTERNOON
THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING.

THE STRONGEST PORTION OF THE STORM WILL AFFECT THE AREA BETWEEN 1
PM THIS AFTERNOON AND MIDNIGHT AS THE JET STREAM MOVES OVER
NORTHERN CALIFORNIA. SNOWFALL RATES DURING THIS TIME WILL EXCEED
2 INCHES PER HOUR IN THE SIERRA WITH 1 TO 2 INCH PER HOUR IN
WESTERN NEVADA.

TRAVEL WILL BE VERY DANGEROUS DUE TO HEAVY SNOW AND WHITEOUT
CONDITIONS. SOME ROADS OVER THE SIERRA PASSES MAY BE CLOSED AT
TIMES THIS EVENING AND TONIGHT DUE TO THE RAPID SNOW
ACCUMULATIONS...TRAVELERS SHOULD EXPECT SIGNIFICANT DELAYS.

THE STORM WILL PRODUCE A HEAVY WET SNOW THAT WILL ACCUMULATE ON A
LESS DENSE SNOW PACK. THIS WILL PRODUCE A HIGH AVALANCHE DANGER
ON STEEP SLOPES ABOVE 7000 FEET WITH NORTH...NORTHEAST...EAST
ASPECTS.

LIGHT TO MODERATE SNOW WILL CONTINUE INTO SUNDAY MORNING ONCE THE
STRONGEST PORTION OF THE STORM PASSES. SNOW MAY NOT END IN THE
SIERRA UNTIL SUNDAY EVENING.

Today: Snow. High near 37. South wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible. 

Tonight: Snow. Low around 29. South wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible. 

Sunday: Snow showers likely before 10am, then a chance of rain and snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 40. West wind between 5 and 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible. 

Sunday Night: A slight chance of rain and snow showers before 10pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 20. West wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
