Subject: Nevada Dam Emergency Action Plans, (EAP)
The State of Nevada, State Engineer's Office enacted new regulations
regarding emergency preparedness at dams. I have just completed the
first EAP to be submitted in the State for a dam my company owns in
northern Elko County. These EAP's must have a communication
component. This can include telephone, public safety radio or
Amateur Radio. I have already been contacted by the Bureau of
Reclamation for Wild Horse Reservoir as the Amateur Radio Contact as
I'm the Elko County EC. You might wish to contact your area dam
owners who should be writing their EAP's as we speak. ARES should be
a part of each of these EAP's!
You will find the new dam safety regulations at this link:
http://www.leg.state.nv.us/NAC/NAC-535.html
The State Engineer's Website is: http://water.nv.gov/
I believe Hoover Dam is exempt from this regulation.
Typical dam owners include:
Bureau of Reclamation
Bureau of Indian Affairs
Sierra Pacific Power Company
Nevada Power Company
Numerous Irrigation Districts
Nevada State Parks Department
