Greetings to All -

Nevada Section PIC Don Carlson and I are moving forward with a plan to
increase public awareness of amateur radio in conjunction with National
Amateur Radio Awareness Day as declared by the ARRL for Saturday,
September 13. We distributed press releases to media outlets in Reno
this morning and will be following up in an attempt to get some press
for amateur radio. As part of this plan, we will be operating two
amateur radio stations where members of the media as well as the general
public can come to learn more about amateur radio. One station will be
portable, located in the parking lot of the National Weather Service
Office in Reno. The other station will be the V.A. Medical Center
Amateur Radio Station. Both will be open and operating from 10 A.M.
until 4 P.M. on Saturday the 13th.

Our intent in this effort is to get members of the media as well as the
general public to come visit us so that we can educate them about how
amateur radio benefits the community (and how we have a great time doing
so). Participation in operating both of these stations is open to all
amateur operators, clubs, and ham radio related organizations. Any
clubs or organizations wishing to be represented at these stations are
welcome with the following two stipulations:

1. You must provide any signs or banners advertising your club, AND
2. Members of your club/organization must be in attendance at either
station (or both) to assist in station operations and talking to the
public/media (this is mandatory if you wish to have your
club/organization represented to the public/media).

The press release distributed today can be viewed at:
