Southern NV ARES DEC Report, DEC, Glenn KB7REO

I spent some time this past month looking into
possibly finding an EC for Esmeralda County. It may be
difficult to find an EC for the county with only one
ARRL member in the area.

I spoke with Joe N7JEH, NV Section Net Manager, in
Elko, NV on Echolink this past month. I would like our
Section to look into trying Echolink as a means to
link together Tonopah, Elko, Reno and Las Vegas. The
Echolink node owner in Elko has the capability to
conference all 4 nodes. I am hopeful that the Reno
area will have an Echolink repeater available soon.

This coming March, John K6YDW and I will be meeting
with the new Las Vegas NWS Warning Coordination
Meteorologist. We will be discussing the re-location
of the SKYWARN amateur radio station within the office
and the program in general. John K6YDW has accepted
the position of Clark County Amateur Radio SKYWARN
Coordinator.

We got registration plates for our communications
trailer. Work is underway to convert it. We got a
club amateur radio call KD7UHO for our ARES group. We
plan to use the callsign for any packet radio we
install in the trailer.

Laughlin/Searchlight ARES Report by EC John N7CQQ

Pat, Nk7C and I have been working on the 160 contest
that we participated in last weekend. We packed up
and drove to GoldField, Nevada, about 4 hours north of
Las Vegas. We left on Thursday, Feb 20 and spent the
rest of the day driving and setting up. Final
preparations were completed just minutes before the
contest started. We operated 160 meters Friday and
Saturday
night and amassed more than 500 contacts.

This included contacts to Cape Verde and Kirabati. We
used a 1/4 wave vertical with 60 - 135 foot radials.
For receiving we used four 550-foot beverage antennas.
The beverage antennas reduced the noise received by
the vertical a great deal.

Goes to show that two competent hams can setup a
communication facility and operate for four days and
come home to write about it.

Lincoln County ARES Report by EC, Lee K7NKH

amateur radio equipment at 4 sites for a possible EOC
