Dear Fellow Ham Radio Operators:
In the next few days ARRL will be announcing that amateur radio as a whole
won the "Golden Antenna" humanitarian award for those hams who served in
the Gulf of Mexico region following Hurricane Katrina. Despite its name,
the award is not an amateur radio award, but one from the German
telecommunications industry to an individual, corporation or group who does
the most for people in need. An ARRL representative is in Germany now
accepting the award.
Are there any of you out there or do you know of any hams in NC who went to
either Alabama, Mississippi or Louisiana to do amateur radio work following
Katrina? I am aware of many people who have gone to the region and
performed non-ham related tasks, such as rebuilding homes, but this award
is specific to those who served in official ham radio capacities.
After the award announcement is made, ARRL will be looking for hams who can
be associated with the Golden Antenna award. Thanks for your help. Great
chance for publicity.
73,
Bill Morine, N2COP
