Hi, everyone
I'm back among the living! And the Hurricane Preparedness Fair is
tomorrow, so I'm just in time.
I've made operator assignments based on e-mail I've received from
volunteers, and you can check it at:
http://www.wakeares.org/hpfair/
Consider these "loose" assignments. We can swap, mix & match during the
day. If you're reading this and haven't volunteered, but would like to
come out, please do.
LOWES has requested that we park in the side parking lot, next to the
Garden Center. That will leave what's left of the main parking lot open
for shoppers and Fair attendees. They have been running newspaper ads for
the past several days promoting the Fair.
WHAT WILL THE OPERATOR DO?
We will have an HF station capable of all bands 80-10, and a VHF-UHF FM
station.
The HF operators can roam whatever bands are open, making random
contacts. I'm not aware of any traffic nets to join, but you can stop by
any of the daily HF nets, like INTERCON/Maratime Net on 14.300. (The NC
Morning Net on 3927 will be over before the Fair starts, but if we're up
and running by 7:45 we can check in. The 11:30 Tarheel net does not meet
on weekends). Maury AG4QZ will bring a laptop and equipment for making
digital contacts, and if we can get that working we can try some PSK-31, etc.
VHF/UHF operators should check into the Orange County ARES net at 9:00 on
442.15 and the Durham County ARES net at 9:30 on 145.45. Maury can also
hook up to the VHF station to show APRS.
And I'm open to any suggestions.
We will have two mobile stations - KN4AQ and KG4CXW - on display. We can
demonstrate operation if people are interested, but we'll have to watch out
for interference with the main operation.
For those setting up, we'll try to get started at 6 AM. We need to be
operational by about 8, and the "gates" open at 9.
We'll do our "talk-in" on 146.64.
Thanks - see you there.
