Is anyone game for a drive-to transmitter hunt this spring?

In April of 2000 eleven individuals formed six teams to hunt down six
transmitters at a hunt in Durham. If that number of participants confirms
their participation prior to this hunt, then a like-new Alinco DJ-S11
2-meter transceiver, and a homebrew tape measure beam, will be awarded as
prizes to winning hunt participants.

I suggest that the hunt be held on a weekend, perhaps a Saturday... there
are five of them in March. Please send me the dates that work for you.

There are many ways to run a transmitter hunt. To maximize participation I
think choosing a good weekend (no ham fests) is important, but it also means
having a large time window, and a fairly large geographic area of activity.

Here is a proposal for the hunt format:
1. Drive-to style transmitter hunt.

2. Several transmitters to find; all located within a few steps of public
parking.

3. Lowest mileage wins.

4. The transmitters will be on the air for most of the day. (So you can hunt
at your convenience.) But a "suggested" start time will be announced, to
allow hunters who can, to meet prior to the start.

5. The transmitters will be spread out geographically in the Durham, Cary,
Raleigh vicinity. So there will probably be one close to you, or someplace
you'll be going to.

Please send me your comments and suggestions.

73 & Happy Hunting,
Charles
