Wayne Williams K4MOB - SK
I just received word that Wayne Williams K4MOB died this morning (Tuesday,
February 12). He was 65 years old.
Most hams in North Carolina knew Wayne as the editor of the SERA Repeater
Journal for the past 23 years, and a driving force in SERA, as well as
owner of Williams Radio, a fixture at hamfests since the 70's.
Wayne had been diagnosed with cancer in 1999. He underwent surgery and
chemotherapy, which kept the disease in remission for more than a
year. Last summer, his doctor found more cancer, but could not operate
because Wayne had not healed from the first surgery. Chemotherapy kept the
cancer at bay until last month, when it grew quickly. About two weeks ago,
Wayne's doctor discontinued all treatment except for pain relief.
While friends and family prayed for a miracle recovery, Wayne told me he
already received a miracle - the ability to use the time he had left to put
his affairs in order and make closer ties with family and friends. Faced
with no alternative, he prepared to die without fear or sorrow.
Funeral arrangements have not been made yet. I'll let you know as soon as
I receive word.
73,
Gary KN4AQ
