Hello Hams,
Michael, N7MR, calling...
For years, Rick, W0RCY, ran the communications for the CAST event.
Fortunately for him, but unfortunately for us, his job has taken him to
North Carolina.
He has handed the reigns over to me.
CAST for Kids Foundation is brought to Fort Collins by one of the local
Bass Fishing clubs and
the US Department of the Interior Bureau of Reclamation. The event offers an
opportunity for disabled kids to get out on the water and fish with
experienced anglers.
It's great fun for them, and an excellent day for all who support the event.
For us hams, it's an easy gig that lasts from 6am to around 1pm.
As usual, we work for t-shirts, donuts (Lemar's) and lunch (Nordy's BBQ!
Eileen's Cookies!).
Jim, KC0RBT, kindly let's us use his 447.450 repeater which has perfect
coverage over the entire lake.
I'd like to have at least 7 operators. For overlap coverage, relief and
the unknown, 8 or 9 is better.
You need an HT on UHF, with enough battery for 6 hours on low power, a
good hat and drinking water.
Once the boats are off the lake, we're free to have lunch and watch the
awards presentations.
Our primary goal is safety, and a smooth operating event.
