Hi Eric,
If you are hearing the CW identification, then you have that repeater set
correctly in the UV-5.
The 447.275 is the most used repeater in the area.
It can be quiet for quite some time especially during the workweek days.
It can also get quite busy in the evenings and on weekends.
There are regular nets on 447.275 (Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings).
Some activity can start up as early as 6 pm and the Thursday net is at 7 pm.
The UV-5 can scan the bands, so just program in all the local repeaters and
see what comes up.
The NCARC repeaters are listed on the NCARC.net web site as well as other in
the local area.
Best regards,
WA5VRL
Willis

Subject: Re: [NCARC] New listener with basic questions
Sorry again .. I dont know if my web mail client is doing some thing weird -
trying again with thunderbird. Hey everyone, My name is Eric. I am currently
studying up to get my technician rating and in the meanwhile I got a UV-5X3
to do some listening on local repeaters and get a feel for whats going on in
ham land in northern colorado. As I don't have my license yet, I'm only
trying to listen, not broadcast - but after tuning in several of the
repeaters listed on the NCARC website, I'm not hearing ... well pretty much
anything. 447.275 seems to be the repeater listed for most Nets, so I've
been keeping that in one of my two dual monitor slots, pretty much all day.
Occasionally I hear some short CW, but im guessing thats maybe just repeater
identification. Can anyone give me some guidance on what/when I should be
tuning to be able to hear some active airwaves? Thanks very much for any
help/advice, -Eric
