[NCARC] SDR vs. Legacy Radio - which is better?

Hi all,
   I'm forwarding this link to a very interesting PDF slide/talk about SDR
radios vs legacy.    There is some nerdy math stuff as well as plain talk
about the differences of architectures an the resulting usefulness.   SDR
radios include the FLEX and IC-7300 and a couple others.

  When I first got my  IC-7300 I figured it was a typical
 RF->Mixer->A/D->I/Q->OUTput converter chain...

 Boy was I surprised to find out that it was a direct sampling radio:
RF->A/D->I/Q->OUTput.   No Intermediate mixer stage.
