[NCARC] Fort Collins Rowing Association needs help

Hi James-

Excellent! I had contacted Bob (WA9FBO) about a week or so ago and it
wasn't clear whether anyone was working on this or not-- and it appeared
then that because of the NCARC annual gathering that hams might not be
available to help. I'm afraid I dropped the ball for a few days and am
certainly glad you are leading the effort to get things organized. Good
luck getting more boats together.

Steve, NCARC members,

I've been working with Peggy Sue for the last few weeks on this event. I've
had my boat there for the last couple of years.

I've started recruiting help for this via the Thursday night ARES net and
was about to send a message out to NCARC to continue that effort, but Steve
beat me too it!

The details:

The event is a fun, low-key event held on Horsetooth reservoir on Saturday
Sept 21st. Everyone volunteering will need to be in their positions by
6am. Some positions will release earlier than others, but expect to have
everyone done by noon, and they feed us a BBQ lunch!

I have about half the positions filled now, but always looking for more
help. The positions include posting up on the ridge along the east side of
Horsetooth (preferably with binoculars) to watch the racers and report any
issues. Also, we post hams in the power boats that follow along with the
sculls. There is one position at the start/finish line as well.

I AM IN DIRE NEED OF MORE BOATS!! Peggy Sue would like to have 4 boats (3
more besides mine) and I only have "possible" leads on 2 others. If you
have a boat (prefer ski/fish/wakeboard types over big cabin cruisers, but
will not turn away anything!!) please let me know! The event will pay for
your park entrance and boat pass for the day (come help us for a few hours
and use the pass the rest of the day to soak up the sun, ski, or go hang out
in a cove!!)

All boats will have Ham operators, some will have EMTs and some may have
event folks as well. If you have a boat, and are willing to help, please
let me know if you are able to take passengers and how many.

Finally, for boat operators, there will be a short (30 minutes or less)
mandatory safety meeting prior to the event (arranged to meet everyone's
schedules) to discuss driving tactics while operating power boats next to
small, fragile and somewhat unstable human powered boats where the occupants
have their feet tied in and no life jackets!)

If you can help with either a roadside position, a boat position, or can
provide a boat, please contact me ASAP with the info included below.

This even has been a lot of fun in the past, come on out and help us make
Fort Collins Rowing association shine once again!

Equipment needs: 1 HT capable of 70cm (we use the RBT repeater if it's
available!)

Thanks everyone, 73 James KI0KN

Hi fellow hams-

There was a very nice message / request for help on my answering machine a
few days ago-and I'm wondering if there are a few people who would like to
gain NET experience and could help Peggy Sue out:

Peggy Sue

Sculling race in Horsetooth on Sept. 21st in the morning (same day as the
NCARC picnic but earlier)

Would like ham radio communications help

In the past, someone with NCARC also had a boat which was really helpful.

Please contact her at 970-481-3044

Someone in the past with NCARC participated in this event with a boat that
really impressed Peggy Sue. Can someone either volunteer to lead or to
help out? This is one of the most fun aspects of ham radio as you both set
up in interesting communication situations AND you get to meaningfully
interact with non-hams who very much value your help.
