Hello,
This message is being sent to those who have expressed an interest in
attending amateur radio classes in the northern Colorado area.
My name is Bob Schmid and my ham radio call sign is WA9FBO. I'm the
current president of the Northern Colorado Amateur Radio Club, the
organization that will be hosting the classes.
If this topic is not of interest to you, please let me know and I will
remove your name from the mailing list.
If you know others who might be interested in the class, please send me
their email addresses and I will be happy to add them to the list.
So, with no further ado: Welcome to the hobby!
The goal of these classes is to help you get your amateur radio license,
or "ticket".
Many people study and take practice exams online to prepare. While
there's nothing wrong with that, the instructor/classroom method adds
background material and helps some folks learn better.
In the past, our classes consisted of six or seven weekly two-hour
evening sessions. This time, we'd like to try something new that has
worked well for other clubs --and perhaps fits busy schedules better.
So, we'd like to hold a day-long Saturday class in September or October.
We'll publish the topic schedule so you'll know which subject is being
taught each hour. You can arrive at the start and spend the day, or pick
and choose topics of interest. We'll have refreshments throughout the
day and likely some demonstrations during breaks.
Whether you need help with electronic theory or rules and regulations,
this day is for you. Our instructors (engineers, professionals, and
hobbyists with years in amateur radio) will be available all day.
The VE (Volunteer Examiner) team will be available the following
Saturday to administer tests. You can nail that exam and have your new
callsign later that week!
We will follow the Technician training with higher classes for those
wishing to upgrade.
We'd like to hear from you. Let's vote on a date in the
September-October time frame so arrangements can be made, then proceed
from there.
73 (Best regards),
Bob
