President Chris and all NCARC members:

We still need some volunteers for the Old Flowers 10K Run on Saturday,
August 27th.
Need 6 to 8 operators for this event which supports the Stove Prairie School
and Rist Canyon VFD.
Operation is on 2 meter simplex with the Buckhorn repeater as backup and
talk-in.

This is an early morning event and operators need to be at the Stove Prairie
School between 6 and 6:30 am.
It is about a 45 minute drive from Ft. Collins (north up County Rd 27 from
Masonville or west on County Rd 52 from Bellvue).
The event is usually over by 10am (plenty of time to make the NCARC Picnic).

At the last NCARC meeting, several operators stated that they would be able
to support this but I did not write down the names at that time (oops).
Please send an e-mail to me at whatley at frii.com or reply via the reflector
if you can assist with this event.

I will make an announcement on the ARES net this week also.

Below is the text from the Old Flowers Run website. There appears to be
some typos in it but the main details are there.

This is the second year that the Rist Canyon Volunteer Fire Department along
with Stove Prairie School are organizing together a Family Run Day (10K run,
5K run, 5K walk and a Kids mile run) to aid in raising money for both
organizations. The school budget will be reduced again for the year 2011-12,
and we are in the risk of being closed last year. With the Crystal Fire,
the Rist Canyon Volunteer Fire Department has significant expenses already
this wildland season. Your participation in the 10-K run and/or any
contribution of cash donation will be greatly appreciated. The run is
capped to 100 participants who will receive a T-shirt donated by Healthy
Kids Club. Note: No strollers or dogs allowed.

Course:

The run starts and finishes at Stove Prairie School at the intersection of
Rist Canyon Rd and Stove Prairie Road. Old Flowers road is a dirt road
surrounded beautiful views of the hills; however it is a very flat run with
only 400ft gain on altitude in the highest point. This is a public road on
private properties. The run starts by going through Stove Prairie Ranch. At
the Steadman Ranch is the 5K run and walk turn around. The 10K runners will
keep going through the Vannorsdel Ranch to Sky Corral Ranch where the
turnaround is. There will be water available every 1.5 miles during the run.
One water station at 1.5 mile from the start, the second one at the
turnaround point at 3 miles from the start, and then you will pass through
the first station again at 1.5 miles from the finish line.

73 and thanks,

WA5VRL
Willis
