This is a note to say THANKS to all those who made presentations at the
monthly NCARC club meetings this year
and provide a brief description of the presentation for the October
meeting...
The October presentation:
Ham Radio on Ice - Adventures in Antarctica
Presented by Jim Collinson, W8IJK
I set up or helped set up the following remote stations in Antarctica:
KC4USC in 1970 and W8IJK/KC4 in 1977 near the Shackleton Glacier in the
Queen Maud Mountains (85S 174.5W)
KC4USW in 1979-80 on the Minnesota Glacier in the Ellsworth Mountains (79S
8W )
KC4NVL in 1981-82 on the Canham Glacier in Northern Victoria Land (74S 164E
)
KC4AAG in 1985-86 near the Beardmore Glacier in the Central Transantarctic
Mountains (83.3S 165E)
I also operated KC4USV at McMurdo and W8IJK/mm on RSV Polar Duke around the
Antarctic Peninsula and in the Southern Ocean.
I will discuss antennas, gear, propagation, contacts, stupid mistakes, and
why I was there.
73 to all,
WA5VRL
Willis
