Calling all hams,
Ron is looking for volunteers for this big event.
Especially somone with a serious 4x4 to take our portable repeater to
the top of Storm Mountain.
This is the most important job of the entire event. There is no other
repeater that can handle the job.
Once to the top, you setup, sit down and wait. About 1 or 2pm, you're done.
I've done the Storm Mountain road in an '81 Chevy and an F-350
Superduty. W0RCY did it in a '96 Chevy 1500.
Those would be the very minimum vehicles for this task.
Where are the hams with the really badass 4x4's? I know you're out there.
We'll provide the repeater, duplexor cans, battery, cables and antenna.
>> From Ron:
Hi All,
I hope you've been having a great summer. I'll be sending more
widespread emails to clubs in the area soon, but I wanted to start off
with a personal email to those of you who volunteered last year. The
2008 Tour de Cure is coming soon, and we need your help.
Due to your excellent work in providing communications support last
year, they've asked for our assistance again! The course is the same,
but our role will be even more important. With bigger SAG wagons,
more supply trucks, and constantly flowing supplies, this year is
going to be even more exciting than the last one! They were so
impressed with the effectiveness of our voice communications that
they've also asked if we can add some APRS support to the SAG and
supply vehicles.
If you can help again this year, please reply with the information below:
- Name:
- Call Sign:
- Phone Number and Type (preferably cell):
- Radio and Antenna Capabilities:
- Radio Operational Capabilities (Rest Stop, SAG Vehicle, or either):
- APRS Capability:
- T-shirt Size:
More details, including route and rest stop maps are available on the
Tour de Cure website at http://www.tourdecurecolorado.com. I'll be
posting and sending more ham-specific information in the future, but
if you have any questions in the mean time, please let me know.
I couldn't have asked for a better group of hams last year, so I hope
you all can help again.
Thank you and 73,
Ron Thomas
