Hello NCARC list members,
There has been some discussion among qth.net list owners as to what can
pass through the system. There are some issues I have seen people
struggle with as well. Here are a few rules and how to deal with them,
to reliably send to this list. I hope this is helpful and lends some
insight into how the system works. This is not a discussion of
etiquette, merely the technical side of sending.
1. Messages must be sent from the email address which the member signed
up. If a subscriber has more than one address, he has to remember which
one is subscribed. Using multiple addresses is fine, but each of these
addresses will receive a copy of every message.
2. Messages must be text only and cannot be sent as HTML. A web address
can be included in the message, to show a picture, etc., but it must be
plain text.
3. Attachments are not allowed. This includes, pictures, Word
documents, or even attached text files. It is odd, but an attached text
file is not the same as just text. The way to include text into a
message is to copy and paste into the message. If a picture or other
document is desired, put it on a web space and enter its address in the
message as text, like http://www.google.com/webhp?complete=1&hl=en. It
is just text, but the recipient's mail tool should recognize it as a
link that can be clicked. If you need a web space to put docs, check
out a free hosting service like http://free.prohosting.com.
4. Multiple recipients are not allowed. If the message will also be
sent to people not on the list, first send to the list, then resend the
message to the other recipients.
5. When a message is not allowed, the sender should receive a message
describing why. It usually gives a very accurate description, but if
the bounce is because of a spam-like word or phrase, that may be all it
reports.
I hope this helps some messages go through more quickly. It is not a
bother for me to deal with bounces and figure them out, but that can add
delay to a message getting out. Also, if you ever get any spam through
this list, let me know, as I think that is impossible. I should be the
only recipient of any spam here, and I trash it. :-) Even so, very
little makes it to me.
If you have any questions or experience difficulties with this system,
please let me know so we can keep it working efficiently.
