Hi folks-- just wanted to add my 2 cents worth to Slate's message that was
just sent out. If you have ever been interested in how deep space
exploration is done with radio telescopes come hear this fascinating talk
by one of the local pioneers.

Slate gave several of us an in person tour and demo back last September of
the facility down on Table Mountain in Boulder. This stuff is really
interesting and worthwhile to know about. Essentially we have a local group
of scientists and amateurs doing deep space radio telescope research in
Boulder at a reconverted radio telescope facility. Slate was one of the
founders of this program and has been the person chiefly responsible for
getting the motors and gearing mechanisms operational and well tuned to move
these huge radio telescope dishes to position on very distant deep space
objects.

What: NCARC (Northern Colorado Amateur Radio Club) May meeting
When: Saturday May 20th: Breakfast 8:00 am, Club business: 9:00 am
Presentation: 9:30 am
Where: Golden Corral restaurant, 901 E. Harmony Road Fort Collins
Who: Slate, N0TQN chief mechanical guru on radio telescopes in Boulder

Listed below is Slate's message with some links to more information. Please
pass this on to other hams/friends, etc.

060515, NCARC DSES Presentation, 20 May 2006

I've accepted the opportunity of presenting the DSES to the
NCARC (Northern Colorado Amatuer Radio Club) this coming
Saturday during our monthly breakfast and business meeting
at the Golden Corral restaurant. Most arrive around 08:00
for breakfast with the meeting starting at 09:00 and the
presentation(s) following the meeting.

At the moment I'm mostly planning on a show and tell of the DSES
while relating personel experiences related to the DSES. I'll
also touch lightly on the EOSS (Edge of Space Sciences), which
I feel could use a members from Northern Colorado considering the
number of launchs they do out of Windsor out into eastern Weld
county.
