[NCARC] Superfest facilities

Hi Guys,

As Willis noted at the last breakfast meeting, the rate sheet for the
Exhibition Halls at the new fairgrounds includes a $25 per outlet fee for
electricity. We all pretty much agreed that that was an unfair policy which puts NCARC at
a disadvantage when vendors compare Superfest with other hamfests.

I talked to Brenda about this (Bob Holt's assistant - - Bob is the
fairgrounds manager), and she took it up with Jay Hardy, the fairgrounds director. She
called me back this morning with news that the fee would be waived for this
coming swapfest as long as we don't require ceiling drops (which require time to
set up). I guess that means tables against the walls can have free power, but
other tables won't unless arrangements are made. As I recall, that's pretty
the way other hamfests operate.

My concern is that we'll be charged for power starting with 2005, and that
this is merely a favor for our first year at the new venue.

I'm willing to take this issue up with Jay and go further if necessary, but
I'd like to hear from you if you've exhibited recently at other fairgrounds or
have further ammunition. Is a power fee common these days? I know that major
shows (like Dayton) always include free power, but the booth rental is pretty
expensive (was >$500 last time I went).

73,
Bob, WA9FBO
