Hello computer hams,
I have a few projects that would be made much easier to do if we could establish a network connection between my house and Horsetooth Mountain, so we have been exploring possible methods of accomplishing this. We have talked about finding a way to shift 2.4GHz 802.11b signals to 3.3GHz for the transfer, but have found that to be expensive and quite uncharted.
I talked with John, NK0R, last night and he suggested experimenting with 802.11a, which operates on 5GHz. This would cost much less and has been done before. Does anyone have experience with transferring 802.11a or other 5GHz signals over a distance of about 4 or 5 miles? I have read a bit on the internet about the standard, but there isn't much about how to connect radios to dishes, etc., so if someone has knowledge of this, I would like to learn some so that our experiments have a better chance of success.
Thanks,
Rick, W0RCY
