Hi Mike,
I agree with Bob that your buddy will have problems charging the 12V
batteries. You'll have trouble equalizing the charge between the two.
I might suggest looking into suppliers of motorhome and big truck electrical
accessories. I'd think they'd run into this 12V/24V conversion problem all
the time. Surplus dealer Marlin P. Jones has small 24V-to-12V switching
converters for $40 but only 8 amps. A switching converter would be very
efficient compared to other schemes.
