Hi all,
A quick reminder that the August 2nd club meeting will be a parks on the
air (POTA) activation at Chatfield Reservoir. Full details are on the club
website, including a description of the location and a Google Maps link to
it. https://na0tc.org/doku.php?id=meetings . If you didn't elect to get the
Keep Colorado Wild pass with your license plate fee, it costs $12 per car
to enter the park.
We will start around 8am (I'll be there around 7:30 to start setting up)
and the idea is for folks that want to learn more about POTA can drop in
and see what it's all about, doing a POTA activation using either their own
equipment or equipment that others are bringing. I plan on hanging out
until noon or so, or until the heat gets too much for humans to handle.
To that end, I'm planning on bringing an HF setup (ICOM IC-705 with an
AlexLoop magnetic loop antenna) and a 2-meter setup (HT with a Moxon
antenna), all powered by battery. I'd love it if a couple other club
members would join me in bringing their own SOTA set up so that we have
plenty of rigs for people to use. There is plenty of space at the site, so
feel free to bring your push-up poles and wire antennas, although FYI there
aren't any trees to hang antennas from.
There are around 5 fixed tables at the site, several with roofs, first come
first serve, so getting there early is key. Larry has agreed to bring
donuts/coffee/refreshments but it's also a good idea to bring your own
water etc. Also if some folks want to bring their own tables/easy up tents
that would be great. I have a table and tent but since I broke my arm/wrist
I will need some help setting them up.
As far as the activation goes, we will have the club callsign set up if
people want to use that, or you're welcome to activate using your own
callsign. If you choose the latter, make sure you set up an account with
the SOTA website ahead of time: https://pota.app.
Also, since that's also the Colorado 14er event, people can chase SOTA/POTA
with them, and the folks up on the peaks can also qualify for a POTA
park-to-park activation and chase. It should be a lot of fun!
You can read up on the full program on the POTA website:

I look forward to seeing everyone a week from Saturday and let me know if
you have any questions.
73,
Mark K0EHR
