Hi all,
Saturday's club meeting, which will be held at the usual spot (Bridge
Church, 3101 S Kipling St in Lakewood), is going to be a great one.
As usual, we'll start at 9:30 with coffee/donuts/socialization, followed by
the business meeting from 10:00 - 10:30 and then the technical presentation.
This month's technical topic will focus on circuit board design basics,
including various ways to prototype, test, and build custom boards followed
by an introduction to using SMT (surface mount technology).
SMT is one topic that many hams (myself included) have avoided due to the
misconception that they're hard to use. Larry K0NA and Dave WB0GAZ opened
my eyes to using SMT a couple weeks ago and I think it's something that
everyone should know about and consider when building your own circuits.
During the session, we'll be showing how easy it is to incorporate SMTs
into your designs, and you'll also have the opportunity to give SMT
soldering a try yourself. Larry is also bringing his CNC machine to show
how he uses it to create circuit boards and he and Dave will demo SMT
soldering techniques using a soldering iron and a hot plate.
I've posted the deck that we'll be presenting on Saturday to the club
website <https://na0tc.org/doku.php?id=meetings> if you'd like to take a
look.
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday!
73,
Mark K0EHR
