Remote Station Field Trip Details
August 6, 2022

1000 - 1100 MST  Open House at W0QL Remote Station
1130 - 1200 MST  Short business meeting and tour of NA0TC Remote Station
Lunch (Optional) - Rookies in Strasburg

The 285 TechConnect Radio Club's August meeting will be a field trip to
the club's remote station.  Mark - W0QL, is also hosting a site visit to
his remote station he described at the January 2022 meeting.  Both
stations are near Strasburg, CO, approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes to
the east from our regular meeting location at Bridge Church at Bear
Creek. If interested, Rookies <https://rookiesofstrasburg.com/> in
Strasburg for lunch (a funky local diner with a varied menu located at
1323 Monroe St, Strasburg CO 80136). Its a little off the main street in
Strasburg (south of 15th Ave on Monroe St (toward I-70).  The Denver
Radio Club repeater (W0TX -449.350 MHz with a 100 Hz PL tone) has good
coverage to the Strasburg area for coordination en route and at the
remote station.

Plan for a fun day, but come prepared for Colorado weather and open
field walking (sturdy shoes, long pants). WATCH FOR TRIPPING HAZARDS
(WIRES, FENCING USED AS RADIALS, GUY WIRE STAKES, CONCRETE BLOCKS). Some
of the hazards are marked with tennis balls or pvc pipes, but use
caution walking around.  There are a lot of weeds that hide the hazards.
The sites have limited facilities so take care of business before you
come on site and bring plenty of water.

W0QL Remote Station <https://w0qlremotebase.wordpress.com/> -
10 miles south of Strasburg on CR Rd 157 (also known as Strasburg Rd.)
in Arapahoe County.   The site does not have an address but the house
next door is 57901 E. CR 42, Strasburg, CO 80249.  The directions from
northern Denver would be to go east on I-70 to exit 310, Strasburg.
Turn right at the end of the exit ramp and immediately turn east at the
5-way intersection. This puts you on CR 157 (Strasburg Rd).  Go south 10
miles, then turn east on CR 42 (Knutdson Rd).  The station is 1/4 mile
east.  Alternate directions from the southern part of Denver would be to
come out Quincy Ave east 24 miles past E-470 to CR 157.  Turn south for
3 miles, then turn east on CR 42.  The station is 1/4 mile east. The
coordinates are 39.59421086018517, -104.31544328184539
<https://www.google.com/maps/place/39%C2%B035'39.2%22N+104%C2%B018'55.6%22W/@39.569277,-104.3784887,34905m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0xc473ca4a90b36a62!8m2!3d39.5942109!4d-104.3154433>.
Parking is on the access road running north beside the station.  Street
parking on CR 42 is okay but local traffic drives too fast and it could
be dangerous.  Once you've parked come on up to the storage shed.
