Bill Thomas (WT0DX) will to give a presentation on "The New Digital Modes FT8 and MSK144" at our August meeting. In addition to reviewing FT8, Bill will discuss using MSK144 for 2 & 6 meter meteor scatter communications. Here is the overview of his presentation:

Interested in operating the new FT8 or MSK144 (Meteor Scatter) modes? During the past year FT8 has had a major positive impact on the operating habits of many hams, particularly those with limited antenna and power options. Meteor scatter is a digital mode that can be used to make distant contacts when the 6M/2M bands are "dead". In this presentation these modes will be explained. Screen captures of actual contacts, and an explanation of the message exchange will be provided. A description of the equipment and software needed to operate them will be covered. Some operating tips will be shared and questions answered.

A new outside 2M antenna was installed with 100 foot of RG58 coax. The SWR was measured at 2:1. Latter it was discovered the antenna was not connected! Is the coax good or bad?

Hope to see you there at station 3
