At tomorrows meeting we will be playing a video of Rob Sherwood’s excellent
presentation on “Disruptive Technologies”. Rob begins with a quick review
of some of the disruptive technologies of the past (semiconductors, tubes,
SSB,..). Next, he talks about the various types of receivers available to
hams, their respective pros and cons, and how they compare performance
wise. What I found especially interesting is his in-depth evaluation of the
performance and operational features of the Icom 7300, and how Icom “threw
a grenade into the status quo” when they released this radio. Larry and I
will both have some backup charts to explain some of the terms and concepts
that Rob refers to in his discussion.

This promises to be a very interesting and informative program and I hope
will be able to join us.
