Moe alerted me that he saw no life from either node at Xenia North (Jim
Simpson's Home).
I just visited the Xenia North node.
I found the Ethernet plugs on Cat5 lines from the NS 5.8 covered with
carbon, and the PoE socket wires covered with both carbon and blue copper
oxidation.
The PoE sockets and Ethernet plugs for the 2.4 looked clean, but I could not
get it to show a power-on light. I installed a new PoE for the 2.4, and the
power light acted normally. Not sure, but I believe we had the NS 5.8
handling the DHCP. so without the 5.8 up, I could not easily connect my
computer to the 2.4 Node.
At home. I find that my 2.4 Omni still sees nothing from Xenia.
Conclusion: We took a lightning strike, that likely took both nodes, and
maybe the Cat5e too. I will go out again, and install new connectors on the
lines feeding the NS 5.8, install a new PoE, and see if we have any joy
there. but I certainly don't expect any.
Suggest we move on the existing plan for Xenia North as soon as temps get
into 60s.
