Bad News. Mike Wolf, owner of WS Electronics, power-cycled the 2.4 Omni at
the 2nd Street Tank earlier today. Power cycling did not restore the node.
Mike found that the PoE pilot lamp flashes when the 2.4 node is connected,
and lights continuously when node is disconnected. He swapped PoEs with
the 5GHz node, and tried bypassing the (bottom end) lightning surge
suppressor. In all cases, he got the same result. This result usually
indicates a failure of the node or of the surge suppressor at the top, or
lightning strike damage to cables or connectors.
Resolution will require a paid climb at the minimum.
I believe this is a good time to think through our strategy for 2nd Street,
particularly in light of Chuck's findings regarding the Ubiquiti NanoSwitch.
If we want to add additional NS, panels, or LHG dishes for links to DARA,
KMH/DAYCO, MVHS, or other "points west" and Montgomery County. now is a good
time to settle on what we think is most important. and then to see what Mike
Wolf is willing to support.
