[MVMA] Is this the surge protector that DARA wants?

Chuck:
History: We installed a 4-bank surge suppressor made by L-Com when we first installed mesh at DARA; model CMSP-CAT6T-4. See:
http://www.l-com.com/surge-protector-indoor-4-port-10-100-1000-base-t-gas-tube-cat6-lightning-protector-rj45-jacks
Following the lightning strike, Jim Simpson asked that we install a suppressor made by Polyphaser. However, Polyphaser makes no Data Surge suppressors; it sells the Transtector units in their catalog. L-Com, Transtector and Polyphaser are all owned by the same holding company. We settled on using the Transtector ALPU-L130 unit for install at DARA. It sells for around $50. I recall running this by Jim Simpson and others at DARA when the issue first came up, and the ALPU-L130 was deemed acceptable. Link immediately below shows the ALPU-L130.

The next one up the line…. The ALPU-F140 has better specs, and sells for $85. Specs are probably overkill.

The unit you noted in your email has better specs yet. I do not believe it was available when we made our initial DARA Transtector purchase decision.
Right now, the Bullet/Omni and AGM5 are protected with the ALPU-L130 units. The L-Com unit is also still installed above the ceiling tile, and I believe redundantly protects the Cat5 lines running to the server room and to the classroom telephone outlet.
Unlike most sellers of surge suppressors…. Transtector actually publishes comprehensive specs on their hardware, and you CAN make comparisons, model to model. The higher priced units usually support higher data rates, and faster clamp times. You can choose units that clamp at 28 volts… or 50 volts. We choose 50 volts due to the future possibility of running 48 V PoE for non-Ubiquiti gear.
