[MVMA] Is this the surge protector that DARA wants?

Chuck, I am listed on the ARRL list of available speakers, so that might happen. I could do a presentation at one of the Mesh meetings. It takes about an hour.
The major issue at DARA was the service entrance didn't have a ground rod. It was added the day after I did a walk through and listed all the issues the site had including the likelyhood it didn't have one. All of their towers only have 1 ground rod. They need to have at least one ground rod per leg. Along with getting a bonding connection between the services and towers.
Most houses have cable, phone and power coming in at different locations, without a bonding connection between them. That does not meet current codes.

Ward Silver N0AX, author of the ARRL book on bonding and grounding was one of the reviewers of my presentation. Along with Al Torres KP4AQI, and John Monteith WB8YXD. Ward does presentations by Skipe. I will do Skipe if the club meeting is more than 2 hours away.

The device on that website looks to be a reasonable device. I would have to buy one and open it up to be able to say it's usable. Depending on its construction it could have unwanted RF Emissions.

Best way to prevent lightning damage is to bond and ground per the NEC (National Electric Code). Very few buildings / Homes are bonded and grounded per the code.
The DARA Clubhouse is not bonded and grounded per the NEC (and what the ARRL recommends for towers), although they fixed one of the more significant issues after all of the damage. Therefore the risk of damage has been reduced at the clubhouse. I have offered to help with fixing the rest of the issues, but have not heard the status of resolving.
The background info I used for the presentation I do on lightning protection is available on the DARA TNG webpage.

  Hi, Jim:

There is much oral history, tradition, and oral claims of equipment requirements at the DARA clubhouse.
I want to reduce these oral legends to the written word.
I was an Industrial electrician and have experience with (DC to 60 Hz) grounding, bonding, and independent-ground circuits.
As a Radio Amateur, I have a little experience with RF grounding and bonding.

If you do another presentation, please announce on this email list.
 :-)

 Chuck
