A couple of weeks ago John Westerkamp and I went in on a pair of
Mikrotik hAP ac lite RB952Ui-5ac2nD indoor 2.4/5.8 "routers." Flashed
with AREDN firmware, they provide:

A 2.4 GHz AREDN Mesh Node that can use Channel -2 or have RF off

A VLAN switch with five ethernet ports,
the first of which is WAN (VLAN1) with PoE In and
the last of which is DtD (VLAN2) and switchable PoE Out...
the three ports in the middle are on the 2.4 GHz node's LAN.

A 5.8 GHz Part 15 Wi-Fi Access Point for the 2.4 node.
(it can be turned off if not used)

A remotely software switchable USB power source/charger.

I use my hAP with 2.4 GHz off, and DtD and PoE to my mobile Bullet M2
with mag mount antenna. The 5.8 Access Point connects my notebook or
iPhone. Rather than use a software VoIP phone such as Linphone on one of
those devices, I could bring along my Grandstream 1630 phone, plug it
into a LAN port and power it from the USB port.

John uses his as a tunnel client with 2.4 GHz off and his home internet
plugged into the WAN port. He is now using Linphone until he gets a
physical phone. When KAS comes back, he will be able to add a more
powerful node with better antenna on Port 5 (DtD).

With 128 MB of memory and 16 GB of flash, the hAP would also make for a
good tunnel server anywhere there's a good internet link.
