AFAIK, no one has done site surveys to test locations where deployable mesh nodes could operate in the area (except perhaps the roof of Greene Memorial in Xenia and I don’t know if that ever happened). Correct me if I’m wrong.
AFAIK, and I’m not sure they’re required, our local ARES organizations have no mesh-specific locations/arrangements with served agencies. Correct me if I’m wrong.
AFAIK, except for Reuben W8GUC, no one in the MVMA has ready-to-go deployable off-grid node setup(s) (I don’t count a bunch of gear that might be thrown together at the last minute). I know some MVMA members have a Bullet+L-Com or NanoStation M2 (NSM2) but have no 12V/24V PoE, rechargeable batteries/charging, portable elevated mounting, available VoIP phone, or available notebook and recharge for it. Correct me if I’m wrong.
Is AUXCOMM in the MVMA important enough for you to (get ARES qualified if not) build and demonstrate a functional off-grid, deployable mesh node setup linked to one of our 2.4 GHz omnis… especially if you already have a node available? We’ll ensure you get time at an MVMA meeting, and even consider relocating said meeting to accommodate your demonstration if you can’t do it remotely during the meeting or video it. Are you then willing to participate in testing and mapping areas in the Miami Valley where it works or doesn’t? …with an 8’ tripod or a 30-40’ guyed mast?
I’d like to know who’ll walk the walk. Who needs 2.4 GHz omnis for AUXCOMM? Please demonstrate that need.
Thanks,
