Hi Rob,
The short answer to your question is yes, you should be able to direct
dial another phone on the Mesh without needing a pbx. It's not clear if
you are trying to place a call by manually dialing an ip address on the
phone's keypad or if you are using the MVMA phonebook now inside your
phone.
The long answer is that you need to do some manual testing with and
without the GS108E between your node and the phone. Your first attempt
should be through the 108. If not successful, then place your phone
directly to your node without going through the 108 at all. If you can
successfully place a call by dialing manually, then getting the MVMA
phonebook to work should be straight forward.
To manually dial a call by ip address on a Grandstream phone, you dial *47
plus the ip address of the phone you are trying to reach. Replace the dots
in the ip address with an * (asterisk) For example, to call me you would
dial
*4710*73*73*66
You may have to pause after the *47 for dial tone. (It's been a while
since I've done this, so I don't remember.) I'm also not sure if you have
to enter # to end the dialing sequence.
If you need any more help, drop me an email.
