[MVMA] John W. W8LRJ -Beavercreek: Attempt to link with Tim's loaner nodes

In the continuing saga of getting a NSM2 working at my QTH...success!!
Well, limited success.

I finally got the NSM2 up as high as I could and positioned it for minimum
interference from trees (not zero though). After about 15 minutes, I got
the KAS node to resolve and after about 10 more minutes, I could see the
Greene County mesh network. The SNR was about 15-20 dB and the LQ for KAS
was 90-100%. When the NLQ went above 20%, I was able to see the network.
This was a bit unreliable and drifted between 10-40%.

Once the network appeared to be somewhat stable, I tried making a VoIP call
to N8NQH (Tim) and was able to call his NWS server and listen to the
weather report as well as calling Tim directly. He answered and we had
about a 5 second conversation before the link gave out.

I consider this a successful test and will be returning the loaner kit. I
am looking recommendations for what I should buy. Should I stick with the
NSM2 or should I look to 5 GHz or 3 GHz? I have to admit, the wide open
3GHz channel sounds appealing, but if that is not appropriate for a user
node, just let me know. I am interested in EmComm so whatever would work
there (as a user) would be of interest.

Thanks for all you help!
