...FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT THROUGH LATE TONIGHT...
The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has expanded the
* Flash Flood Watch to include portions of northern New Jersey and
eastern Pennsylvania. The watch now includes the counties of
Sussex, Warren, and Morris in New Jersey, and the counties of
Carbon, Monroe, and Northampton in Pennsylvania.
* Through late tonight
* Showers and thunderstorms are expected to move through the area
today into this evening. The stronger storms will be capable of
producing torrential downpours, and the storms may have a
tendency to move over the same areas. Rainfall totals of 1 to 3
inches may occur in a short amount of time. This could lead to
localized flash flooding.
* The risk of flash flooding is highest with storms that produce
excessive rainfall rates for an extended period of time.
Flooding is most likely in more urbanized and in poor-drainage
locations. Rapid rises on small creeks and streams are possible.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Flash Flood Watch means that there is the potential for flash
flooding, which can be life-threatening. Heavy rain is expected
to occur over a short period of time. Rapidly rising flood waters
may quickly inundate some roadways. Streams and creeks could
leave their banks, flooding nearby properties.
Please monitor the forecast, especially if you live in a location
that is prone to flooding. Be prepared to take action if a flash
flood warning is issued for your area.
