March 4th to March 10th is wildfire prevention week in
Pennsylvania. This time of year marks the beginning of the
Commonwealth's Spring fire season. Unlike the western states,
Pennsylvania has two wildfire seasons, one in the Spring and one
in the Fall. Fire seasons coincide with lawn clean-up, which
relates to the leading cause of wildfires in Pennsylvania, burning
of debris.

The Pennsylvania Bureau of Foreastry asks citizens, when
possible, to recycle lawn and household refuse. If you must burn,
please be aware of local burning ordinances and burn bans. And
follow these safety tips.

Do not burn on windy days.
Never leave fire unattended.
Always have a water source and rake or shovel nearby.
Use a proper burn barrel.
Start small, stay small.
Ensure completed fires are out cold.

And remember, only you can prevent wildfires.
