...THE FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1245 PM EDT FOR
NORTHERN NEW CASTLE...BERKS...WESTERN MONTGOMERY...CHESTER AND
DELAWARE COUNTIES...
At 1156 AM EDT, numerous road closures due to flooding continues
across portions of Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Berks County in
southeastern Pennsylvania. The rain has ended across the warned area
and the threat of additional flash flooding is decreasing
accordingly. However, many of the creeks and streams in northern
Delaware and southeastern Pennsylvania continue to rise in response
to the excess runoff from the heavy rain this morning. An areal
Flood Warning will likely be needed when this Flash Flood Warning is
set to expire.
The heaviest rain fell just west of I-476 in northeast Delaware
County and western Montgomery County in southeastern Delaware where
radar and automated gauges indicate 4 to 6 inches of rain fell this
morning. Several areas in Chester and Berks County also received 2
to 4 inches of rain.
Some locations that could experience flooding include...
Reading, Wilmington, Newark, West Chester, Chester, Pottstown,
Phoenixville, West Norriton, Coatesville, Westtown, Wyomissing,
Downingtown, Folcroft, Swarthmore, Elsmere, Kennett Square, New
Castle, Birdsboro, Collegeville and Oxford.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Turn around...don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as
well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.
Stay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can become
unstable and unsafe.
