...FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY MORNING THROUGH FRIDAY
AFTERNOON...
The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a
* Flood Watch for portions of central New Jersey, northern New
Jersey, and northwest New Jersey, including the following
areas, in central New Jersey, Mercer and Western Monmouth. In
northern New Jersey, Middlesex, Morris, Somerset, Sussex, and
Warren. In northwest New Jersey, Hunterdon.
* From Thursday morning through Friday afternoon
* Rain is forecast to overspread central and northern New Jersey on
Thursday. The rain is expected to be moderate to heavy during
the late morning and afternoon.
* Rainfall totals of one to two inches with isolated three inch
amounts are expected. This will be the third rainfall event in the
last week. Like the first two, the rainfall could be heavy at
times and accumulations are forecast to be in excess on one inch.
The ground remains wet and rivers and streams continue to run high.
* The moderate to heavy rain will likely result in some roadway
flooding along with flooding in areas of poor drainage on
Thursday. Some small streams and creeks may leave their banks
Thursday afternoon into Thursday night. Minor to moderate flooding
could then occur along a number of larger rivers late Thursday
night into Friday. The river flooding could persist through the
weekend.
* Please refer to AHPS for the latest. Confidence is higher that a
number of forecast points will hit their Flood Stage. But with
rainfall about 48 hours away, confidence is much less regarding
any moderate flooding that is forecast.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.
You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
Flood Warnings. If you live in an area prone to flooding, be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
