Ladies and Gentlemen...

Here's the latest on the 2002 SKYWARN Recognition
Day. There are currently 79 stations registered to
participate in the event. The web site (hamradio.noaa.gov)
is up-to-date with the list of participating stations
with one exception. The NWS office in Oxnard
will be added to the site later today. The deadline
for registering a site is December 1, 2002.
Again, I ask you to review your station information and
inform me of any errors.

I'm pleased to announce that SRD 2002 will have an
international flair this year. After reading the SRD
article in QST magazine, I was contacted by
Environment Canada (EC). EC utilizes 160
spotters in 40 communities across Manitoba, and
also has net controllers in Alberta and
Saskatchewan. EC will operate using
VE4WWO on various bands from the
EC Prairie Storm Prediction Center in Winnipeg.

Robert Hobbs (N5ULA) is attempting to
establish an IRLP net for SRD. The
Internet Radio Linking Project was
used during hurricane Lili. If you're
unfamiliar with IRLP, go to the IRLP
web site at http://www.qsl.net/sflskywarn/.
If you're interested in helping Bob establish this
net for SRD, please contact him at [email protected].

This is a reminder that if your NWS office is
located on airport grounds, you must notify
the airport manager or communications officer
about your plans regarding SRD. There
have been no reports of radio interference
when SRD took place during the past three
years. However, since airport communications
are critical to public safety, you need to
notify the appropriate official. If the
official objects, you cannot transmit from
the airport grounds. At that point you can
move SRD operations to another location.

As soon as I receive confirmation that the
Honolulu NWS office is participating,
I'll send some guidance about incorporating
Pearl Harbor Day remembrances into
SRD.

Please email me at [email protected] if you plan to participate.
December 7, 2002 UTC (Thats 6:00PM Friday Dec. 6 Local - 6:00PM Sat. Dec 7
local.)

Will need help with setup and tear down. We will be putting on a simple
single HF station this year. Also would like to use the IRLP and ECHO LINK
on 2M to see how that will work.
