RACES Officers:
I have completed the task of adding all the RACES Officers to the MRIC email
list. You should have received an email a few minutes before this, informing
you that you have been added. It includes instructions for sending emails,
and logging onto the mailman service if you want to change your preferences.
Remember if you want to send email to the ROs using this service, you must
send your email in plain-text format with no attachments. Details on how to do
this for your email software can be found on the mailman web site indicated in
the email you received. Only ROs can send/receive using this service. Please
forward emails to anyone in your organization that you think should be kept
informed. There was $16 left over from the money we collected for pizza
yesterday, and I will apply it toward the $25 annual donation requested from
qth.net for the mailman email reflector service. This is the first email sent via
the MRIC mailman service.
I would like to thank you all for attending and participating in a very
productive first meeting. I am proud of how everyone handled themselves and
stayed focused on the topics at hand. As I mentioned at the beginning of the
meeting, we had a very full agenda and I am very happy that we accomplished so
much. I would also like to thank Pat, Joe and Frank for being so gracious as we
skipped over their presentations on recruitment and lessons learned in order
to complete all our business items. Thanks again to Frank for being a gracious
host and coordinating the use of the AA EOC facility. Thanks to Al for
conducting so much research and his presentation on ICS-213. And a special thank
you to Dave for offering to be our secretary and taking minutes. He will be
distributing the minutes soon.
During yesterday's meeting, we accomplished the following:
- Reviewed and discussed our charter (i.e. the motion by Ed Mullikin to the
Association)
- Elected Dave as Secretary
- Compiled a list of Maryland RACES Officers and all their contact info
- Agreed to use this mailman email list for communications between ROs
- Compiled a list of all the frequencies used by RACES groups in MD,
including simplex frequencies. Indicated purpose of each frequency and which to use
to attempt to contact that jurisdiction.
- Began discussions on a standard message format, web site, HF net, and
state-wide exercises
- Set meeting times and dates for the remainder of 2007
- Compiled a list of future topics of discussion
- Selected agenda items for next meeting
Congratulations on a job well done! If you agree it was a very productive
meeting, please share that with your Emergency Manger so we continue to receive
their support. I look forward to another productive meeting on April 21 and
November 10, 2007.
Sincerely,
Brett Hammond
MRIC Chairman
