 Hi Breck - Thanks...The ME-61 is a very handy "sanity check" in the field,
but you're right, they are pretty deaf especially around QRP sets.  I
usually run a hank of wire with an alligator clip on the antenna but I like
your idea of a DC amplifier to increase its sensitivity.  It even makes a
pretty good near-field AM monitor receiver with its diode detector and
phones!  We had 3 of them on-site...

I also "modified" mine by flipping the chassis 180 degrees around inside
its box - a little less clumsy on the operating table with its attached lid
getting in the way.

Yeah - Guilt-free, Pigless Bacon Chips...Huh?  They were not really even
very good as kindling for the campfire...
