Tom and Tim

Thanks for your replies. From what Tom has said it sounds like it was a very well done restoration of the vehicle.

On the G503.com site I saw a posting by Mike , the fellow who is the owner of the jeep, lamenting that there was so little
interest shown in his radio jeep and that he was very disappointed. I'm guessing he didn’t see or5 stop by o caht with anybody
by your comm center and how could you miss Andy's MRC-56. Not all can be the' Belle of the Ball' and I understand his disappointment
but a small percentage of guys that attend these Meets are not , as OPE likes to say......"Radio Squirrels"

I'm going to contact Mike and let him know there are folks that appreciate his efforts. I think also hauling the jeep all the way out from Phoenix played into this.

Verne and I saw this Jeep when we were there on Thursday, I did not know what it was or that it had radios until I heard Verne talking with the owner who was from the Phoenix area. The jeep itself was very nicely done, looked like it was just off the production line. On the back was a large box, inside of which was a TCS set with dynamotor, the box had a small window (maybe two??) and latches to tighten and seal it. I would not have known there was radio equipment inside. You had to get right down and look into the window to see the TCS, the dynamotor was on the right side and not easily seen.

                                                                                           Tom, W6TOM

Tim

Thanks for the pics was able to see them ok as attachments.

Verne Anderson was at the Meet also and he saw a restored 1950 Willys CJ-V35/U Navy radio jeep complete with the TCS in the waterproof enclosure.

Did anyone else see it and if so get a pic of it? That’s a pretty rare jeep . Surprised there was no mention of it.

We had a small but operational MRCG display at Camp Delta during the September 20-23 rally of the Military Vehicle Collectors of California near Lodi CA.

Andy brought his MRC-56 Navy G/A comm trailer, Alex had his PRC-47 and GRR-5, I had a VRC-7 & 10 (yeah, I know..), GRC-9, TRC-77, PRC-25 and Tom's PRC-6 all online. Plus a TRC-88 and PRC-10 in non-op display. HF antennas were quarter wave, low inverted L's on 3550, 3985 and 7050 kc.

A few Camp ham stations were up on 51.00 and we had lots of curious visitors over 4 days; the kids liked talking on the PRC-25. Jerry was up on 51.00 and had his SCR-284 going nearby and a nice TBY display as well.

Contacts included the MRCG AM net on Saturday night with the GRC-9; we had good signals into SOCAL, but the band was very long by 2000, we could barely even hear Jeff's rock crusher WRT-2 signal closer-in, Mark (further away with 25 watts) was Q5, others about Q3.

We tried a post-AM net on 3985 USB but then realized we brought the wrong PRC-47 which was set up for LSB. Doh!! Otherwise it would have worked fine. Next time....

Another notable "out station" CW contact was with the "home station" (K6)KPH at the Maritime Historical Radio Society coast station KPH on the 3550 kc West Coast Agent Guard Channel. We received a 599 report from Op Mike at 1800 local time with the 10 watt TRC-77 and quarter wave wire. They "Rogered" our request for a standard resupply pallet airdrop at DZ (Drop Zone) Camp Delta for sunrise Sunday morning. Interestingly, two C-130's overflew our site several hours later, probably out of Travis AFB. But no parachutes were seen, no loud thuds were heard.

Among the military vehicles present was a prehistoric armored vehicle camped nearby...

Oh, and Alex's fantastic chow was great! A good time was had by all..Some pix attached:
