> WYONG FIELD DAY 2017 Report Ray Robinson
>
> There was heavy rain on Saturday night, we got 78 mm.
> The forecast was for showers all day, so it appeared bleak.
> It rained on the drive from Sydney to Wyong,
> but on arrival, the clouds started to thin and blue sky appeared.
> We set up, and the crowds arrived, but not as many as usual.
> Ian O'Toole had his Kurrajong Military Museum display,
> with an R210 and some a huge crystal set.
> Ray Poularas had his SCR-522 running,
> and several other military radios.
> I ran the HRSA table with a Philco and an Attwater Kent.
>
> There were not that many traders or flea market vendors.
> The
flea market was devoid of military radios,
> all I found was some handsets and some whips.
> I gave my talk at 10AM, to about 20 people,
> on the Beam Approach Receiver (a WW2 modified Command Set).
> All day, there was the buzz of motors, as the drone races were staged.
> Then there were the little drones, about cigarette packet sized,
> flying through the flea market, above our heads (mostly)
> and speeding
> through the vendor areas.
>
> WW2 NET (3590 Khz AM)
> I had my MTR Mk2 as the base station, and an 80 m centre loaded whip
> as the aerial. It seemed to work fine.
> I had my A510 but it appeared to have a short range,
> and RP said my audio was distorted.
> Peter had his BC-611 but its range appeared to be short.
>
> COLD WAR NET (51.00 Mhz FM)
> This went very well, signals were all strong and clear,
> as we walked to the furthest reaches of the racecourse.
> Ray P had a RACAL Panther V as a base station,
> and a USA military droopy ground plane vertical for an antenna,
>
tuned to 51.00 Mhz.
> Luis had a PRC-350 which gave good signals.
> I had a RACAL Jaguar V in a backpack.
>
> AIR NET (144.125 Mhz AM)
> RAY P had his SCR-522 running, using a TRC-6 discone,
> tuned for 2 meters. His SCR-522 had no crystals,
> so he was using a Johnson VFO as the signal source,
> but this was not realy that successful.
> I could hear him just, and he could hear me just.
> My PRC-113 was working OK I think.
>
> Ian monitored the 3 nets, using an
> R210 for 80 meters,
> and a scanner for 6 and 2 meters.
>
> It all seemed to wind down at about 1 pm
> so we packed up and went home.
