[MRCG] Anybody familiar with the R-808/GRC-14 receiver?

I have an entire GRC-14, which I use to ensure my house doesn't float away.
The R-808 is a passable receiver, not up to the standard of the R-392, but
decent. The whole GRC-14 is a study in how not to make a radio
transportable. It basically serves the same purpose (for the USMC) that the
GRC-19 did for the Army. It is a later design, with a few transistors
scattered around, and a pseudo-synthesized transmitter. The problem with
the whole thing is that with the two receivers, transmitter, power supply
and mounts, it tips the scales at over 600 lbs! The power supply is the
heaviest component, and no wonder: It uses the biggest dynamotor I have
ever seen for transmitter B+ from 28 VDC, and for AC operation, there is a
monster transformer-rectifier supply that runs the dynamotor! (all of this
in one 300# + box). Imagine this monster taxing the springs of an M-38A1.
It actually weighs considerably more than an entire TRC-75! Definitely
cool, though!

Hi Jim,
I have one too. Bought it beacuse of the internal RTTY demod.
Mine works and have used it briefly but have never seen a manual or done
much with it. Hope to set it up someday.
