Have a lot ( well over 1000 hours) of a- - time riding Goony Birds, made it every time ! Aft cargo door/hatch is on left (port) side. Slow, cold and wet but just kept flying.

One of my first military flights back then(Navy) was in a C-47/R4D as
old as I was with a big open door on the right/starboard side. Lots of
wind and a bit cool even in toastie Vietnam...I understand the mules
concern.
