I think Tuskegee Airmen flew the "C". I believe it's the "razor back" style cockpit. CAF has a flying one.

"C" model is a rare bird indeed, CBI vet to boot ! Can't speak to the radios.

SCR-274 with SCR-522

I’m doing some research for a P-51C restoration and some
questions have come up about the antennas and radios that I hope someone on the
list can help answer. This aircraft saw service in the China-Burma-India theater
in the 14th AirForce, 23rd Fighter Group, 75th squadron.

>From WW2 pictures,
the HF wire antenna is plainly visible, so I assume a SCR-274N was installed.
Dennis pointed out the relay box, that appears to confirm.

So, although I
think I know what the answers could be, I defer to the experts -

First
question – at that point in the conflict, would SCR-522 be available in that
theater ?

Second question – is it possible a SCR-274N was installed in a
fighter at the same time as a SCR-522 set ?

Third question – if both radios
were installed, the AN-104 antenna for the SCR-522 has a small hole at the tip –
could it have done double-duty, where it was used as a supporting mast for a HF
antenna wire as well as handling the VHF ?

I’m sure I’ll have more questions
as we get into this one...

Thanks
