One more thought on buying aluminum. There are several on line sources of metal that are probably better than McMaster- Carr. The price of shipping becomes a big factor. Tom

6061 t6 is the workhorse of the aluminum grades this is what makes it cheap. It's used in 95% of aerospace parts. Being common makes it available in many shapes and sizes. It's weldable and heat treatable. It has good corrosion resistance and its strength is not the best but good. T651 and possibly other heat treatments starting with T are good, they have extra stress relieving that is good but not necessary for your projects. Tom, K6LQI

McMaster-Carr is another source for this sort of stuff:

I wonder if cheaper, easier-to-work 6061 aluminum would be adequate? I'd imagine that Craig will treat the radio much more gently than it would have experienced in wartime. But in any case, McMaster (as well as lots of other metal vendors) will have other common grades in stock, too.
