At this time [;ease be a bit vague to your friends about the qualifications needed to register as a participant of the MVPA International Convention. I'll give you some back channel info to go along with what Kurt said but please don't forward this letter around.
It is the annual MVPA event and some within their hierarchy think parts of it should be reserved for members. This is logical. A membership-based organization needs to be concerned with offering benefits to members. Some others think the doors should be wide open so a max number of people are exposed to the MVPA and hobby, plus pay an admission fee. Many vendors are in this camp. The convention bills have to be paid one way or the other.
The standard MVPA registration form has allowed "Guests" of members to pre-register on a member's application, which as you may know is submitted via the forms published on www.mvpa.org and in their member magazine Supply Line early next year. This is like registering a spouse or child. Name badges are mailed to the member and he needs to give that to his family member or guest. This process is not likely to be any different for our show, FYI.
At the last convention, anybody could show up at the gate on the first show day which is always Thursday, and buy a three day ticket, for a price a little more than what a member would pay for a multi-day registration. So this suited the non-joiner type. But a smart person knowing about the very nice MVPA member-only magazines usually make the right decision to join first and register the normal way. It's not that much more money. Anyway there is technically no way for a non-member/guest to enter on set-up day which was Wednesday.
There is normally a general admission fee of $9 or $10 on Saturday. Sometimes this inexpensive ticket is offered on Friday too. Most think the first-day Thursday admission should be reserved only for members, family, and their guests. Thursday offers the first shot at the vendor show and all the cool military radio gear for sale. Again, a right most people think should be granted to members.
Probably their Board will decide their 2016 policy about all this at their meeting December 11-12, which will be in Pleasanton. If the MRCG has a proposal for how a change to past policies will bring a better display at our show, now's a good time to hear it.
Again, please don't forward this letter around. I thought you ought to know what to tell people verbally when appropriate. Maybe it will all be ready for publication late this month so your folks can ask for vacation days!

Hi Kurt - Thanks, I didn't know that....that $50 MVPA membership will probably be a show-stopper for some people, especially any non-MV owning radio guys....
So looks like MVCC membership doesn't count! LOL
Thanks for the heads up...,Tim

Tim,
Please remember that you do not need to be an MVPA member to attend the convention on a 1 time basis but if you plan on being there all 3 days you need to be.

The Military Vehicle Collectors of California (MVCC) is hosting the National
Military Vehicle Preservation Association annual convention 11-13 August
2016. The MVCC is the guys who run Camp Delta in April/Sept every year
up in Lodi CA. Websites below:
http://mvccnews.net/convention.htm

We,
the MRCG, have been invited to attend and participate in any way that
makes sense. Displays, operations, seminars, swaps etc. A recent one
up in Oregon had a great display of the British 7th Armoured Brigade;
the "Desert Rats" vehicles, complete with date palm trees, sand
and an operational WS-11 set + an original wire antenna up among the
palms.. Pretty cool Then there is Camp Delta. If you miss those, you need retraining.
There will be LOTS of military radios with cool Military
Vehicles bolted to them! Camp Delta usually has upwards of 200 military
vehicles in attendance, this gathering should attract those plus many more...
This is a long way off but let's start thinking about
it. It will be held at the Alameda County Fairgrounds, an
indoor/outdoor venue in Pleasanton CA. Camping, RV's, hotels, behind
the bushes etc. Easily accessible via I-5 or US 101....
Maybe we hold a 2016 MRCG field event concurrent with them? Waddaya think?
Put it on your calendar!
Stay tuned for further details
